In working with the Daily News Innovation Lab team, my initial thought was to invite everyone to everything, but make it all optional.

I’ve reconsidered.

My new philosophy is:

Share everything with everyone, but don’t invite everyone to everything, even if the invitations are optional.

As demonstrated by our amazing mission statement experience, team members are at their best when they are focusing on the projects they are the most passionate about.  And not every team member is going to be passionate about everything.  So let the event fiends go to and plan events.  And the developers look at wireframes.  But don’t put team members into meetings that don’t touch on their passion, because they’ll lose interest, and you’ll lose them.
